Jeremie Frimpong has received an amazing hero's welcome while visiting his parents' home country of Ghana for the first time.
The former Celtic full-back and current Bayer Leverkusen star flew into Kotoka International Airport with a police escort, and was presented with flowers and balloons while those around them played drums, danced and sang for the occasion.
Born in Ghana, the Dutch internationalist has spent his life living in Europe, with this week-long holiday said to be the first time he's visited the west African nation since.
As shared by Joy Sports, here's a snippet of the airport fanfare upon the player's arrival:

Frimpong was a revelation for Celtic when he was signed as a 'prospect' in 2019.
After a handful of training sessions with the first-team, it wasn't long before Neil Lennon, Damien Duff and John Kennedy integrated the full-back (then 19) into the Celtic starting XI.
In June 2020, Frimpong was voted Celtic's Young Player of the Year for season 2019–20, before leaving for the German Bundesliga during the January transfer window of 2021.
There, he helped Bayer Leverkusen record an undefeated league championship-winning campaign – the first time in German top flight history this had ever been achieved.
