Former Castle Douglas bank turned into stunning new art gallery

An old bank in Castle Douglas has been transformed into an art gallery.

Burford Antiques have moved down King Street to what was the old TSB.

The antique business run by Jason and Kirsty Burford is on the first floor with the new gallery, called The Artist, opening tomorrow.

Kirsty said: “It’s quite a large, bright space with glass on one side. It’ll have a rolling exhibition that continues throughout the year with different artists exhibiting.

(Jim McEwan)

“There will be a lot of Ayrshire artists coming down that haven’t exhibited in this area before.”

The opening exhibition will feature work by Douglas Lennox, Franzeska Ewart, Bill Wiseman, Neil Cramond and sculpture Frances Clark.

And exhibiting in July will be top Scottish portrait artists Gerard Burns, whose subjects have included First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, comedian Billy Connolly and rugby player Doddie Weir.

The opening of The Artist @ Burford Antiques will take place between 10am and 8pm on Friday with fizz, wine and canapes on offer.
