The Arizona Cardinals announced the release of tight end Zach Ertz on Thursday. With the emergence of second-year tight end Trye McBride and the team sitting at 2-10 on the season, Ertz requested his release to be able to sign with a contender.
He has since cleared waivers and is now free to sign with any team.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, there might be a return to Philadelphia.
Schefter reports the 10-1 Eagles, Ertz’s previous team, have interest in Ertz.
Ertz played for the Eagles from 2012-2021, when he was traded to the Cardinals.
He needs 11 catches to become the Eagles’ all-time leading receiver.
Ertz caught 579 passes as a member of the Eagles. Harold Carmichael, who played between 1971-1983, had 589 total catches for Philly.
