The Arizona Cardinals fired Steve Wilks after only season of being head coach. The Cardinals went 3-13 that year and were historically bad offensively.
Wilks is finally getting another shot at leading a team as a head coach.
The Carolina Panthers fired head coach Matt Rhule after the team’s 37-15 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, leaving them at 1-4 to start the year.
Wilks was the Panthers’ defensive passing game coordinator/secondary coach, working with defensive backs as he had done for many years.
Now he will try to right things for the Panthers.
They are dead last in the league in total offense, averaging only 271 yards per game. They passed 300 yards of offense in a game for the first time on Sunday.
They have averaged 18.6 points per game and have allowed an average of 24.4 points per game.
We will get to see if he handles things differently than his stint in Arizona in 2018. He was widely respected throughout the organization but the results that season were terrible.
