Former Burnley boss set for Queen's Park as Airdrie legend in pole position for shock UK return

Airdrie legend and former Burnley manager Owen Coyle is in pole position to be named Queen's Park manager, according to various reports.

The Scotsman is off the back of a successful season with Indian Super League side Jamshedpur, where he won the league title.

Spiders chief executive Leeann Dempster has identified the experienced manager as their number one target to replace Laurie Ellis, who was dismissed in December.

Coyle could possibly be in charge by the end of the week as Queen's Park look for promotion from League One to the Championship after going full-time and winning League Two last season.

They currently sit fourth in the table - the final promotion play-off spot - and six points ahead of fifth-placed Falkirk.

A striker in his playing days, Coyle featured over 150 times for the Diamonds over three spells, and was assistant manager for a spell in the 2004/05 season.

He's managed several clubs in his career, including Burnley, who he guided to the Premier League.

Coyle was last in the UK with Ross County in 2018 and ironically, Airdrie face Queen's Park this Saturday.
