Former Bristol City, Celtic and Aberdeen midfielder lands first EFL managerial job

Former Bristol City midfielder Paul Hartley has landed a managerial job in the EFL.

Hartley, who played for the Robins in 2009/10, has plenty of experience in the dugout in Scotland, spending spells in charge of Alloa Athletic, Falkirk, Dundee and Cove Rangers.

And the 45-year-old will now try his hand in the Football League, taking charge of League Two Hartlepool United.

He has five promotions already in his managerial career, including two with Cove, leading the club to their highest league finish.

“I’m an ambitious manager and I would only move to a club that I believe can provide the platform for building a team that wins," he told the club's website.

"As a manager I want the supporters to know that I am a driven and hard-working person and we will produce a team that as a minimum always works extremely hard and is totally committed.”

“We spoke to numerous people privately about Paul from across the game and unanimously the opinion was to just go and get him," Pools chairman Raj Singh added.

Hartley played 40 times for City in the Championship, scoring five goals. The 25-cap Scotland international moved to Ashton Gate from Celtic in 2009 and had a solid campaign in the heart of midfield as City finished 10th, but he wanted to return north of the border and signed for Aberdeen on a free transfer in 2010.
