Motherwell have made their first new summer signing after snapping up former Walsall and Bolton striker Conor Wilkinson on a two-year deal.
The 28-year-old has a wealth of experience in England's lower leagues, having also turned out for Leyton Orient, Portsmouth, Barnsley, Oldham and Gillingham, among others, during his career.
And the Steelmen will be hoping Wilkinson can be the man to fill the void left by Dutchman Kevin van Veen, who joined in a similar move in 2021 when he penned a two-year deal from Scunthorpe.
Motherwell need to replace the 29 goals van Veen netted in claret and amber last season and Wilkinson had good numbers at Orient, where he scored 20 goals in 70 appearances.
He is a towering striker at 6ft 3' but Wilkinson insists he is more than a target man.
The Englishman told the Motherwell website: “Joining Motherwell is a great feeling.
“I’m six foot three and I think people can get the wrong idea about the type of player I am because of that.
“I’m not a target man, I like to get on the ball and show people what I’ve got.
“To get the deal done is great and it now allows me to get down to business and focus on the season ahead.”
Gaffer Stuart Kettlewell adds Wilkinson to his earlier summer business, which included new one-year and two-year deals for striker Jon Obika and midfielder Harry Paton, respectively.
And he is thrilled to have a fresh face at Fir Park.
He added: "It’s no secret that we’re light at the top of the pitch.
“Conor has imagination on the pitch and to have that in your team, is exciting. He is someone who we have tracked for a while and been looking to get signed as soon as possible.
“With the experience he has, there is no doubt in my mind, that he will add firepower to the team.”
Wilkinson won't be the last addition as Motherwell build towards their first competitive fixture away to League Two Elgin City on July 15.
