Former bingo hall set to be transformed into 270 affordable homes

Plans have been submitted for 270 affordable homes in Pendleton on the site of a former bingo hall. A blueprint for the scheme at the corner of Hankinson Way and Belvedere Road has been submitted to Salford council's planning department.

The brownfield site is where the Buzz Bingo Hall and has been brought forward by Donard Living. It includes one, two, and three-bed apartments, delivered as affordable homes to rent. The proposed development also includes renewed landscaping, a new children’s play area and private outdoor space for residents and visitors.

Members of the public were invited to have their say on the proposals earlier this year. Respondents to the online survey provided feedback on the design of the site and its impact on the surrounding area.

Donard Living and the project team say they have listened, responded, and tried to incorporate this feedback, where possible, into the proposals. Paul Thornton, a spokesperson for Donard Living, said: “We are grateful for the constructive feedback which we received from members of the public on our proposed plans for Pendleton.

"This is an established and close-knit community and our ambition is to create a scheme which is in keeping with its surroundings and delivers much-needed affordable homes. The comments we have received have helped to shape and refine our proposals. As responsible neighbours, we are committed to engaging with local residents, stakeholders and businesses throughout the planning application and beyond.”

Donard Living says it is hoped a decision on the plans will be made by the city council in the autumn.
