Former Arsenal star Mesut Ozil sends Harry Maguire message following chilling bomb threat

Mesut Ozil has sent Harry Maguire a message of support after the Manchester United defender received a bomb threat on Wednesday afternoon.

The England international received a chilling threat on his family home in the wake of United's 4-0 defeat at Liverpool on Tuesday evening. Police officers were subsequently dispatched to his home in Cheshire on Thursday afternoon, with a specialist police explosives dog also attending as a 'precautionary measure'.

It's understood that the former Leicester City centre-half received the threat by email on Wednesday but no evacuations were needed. A spokesman for Maguire has also told our sister title the Manchester Evening News: "In the last 24 hours, Harry has received a serious threat to his family home.

"He has reported this to the police who are now looking into the matter. The safety of his family and those around him is obviously Harry's number one priority.

"He will continue to prepare for this weekend’s fixture as normal and we will not be commenting in any further detail at this time." Now, former Arsenal midfielder Ozil has weighed in on the situation on social media, admitting that he has been left bemused by the haunting situation.

The German's Tweet read: "Just read the news about Harry Maguire ... this is just insane. Football can never ever be that serious to be threatening a player and his family. I'm shocked. Sometimes football brings out the worst in people. Hopefully all people involved get punished."
