Former Arsenal defender 'baffled' by talk over Jurgen Klopp next step at Liverpool

Kieran Gibbs has admitted he is 'baffled' whenever he hears anyone calling for Jurgen Klopp to lose his job at Liverpool following a tough campaign.

The last two weeks have summed up Liverpool's season. The Reds beat biggest rivals Manchester United by a huge 7-0 scoreline to put themselves three points behind fourth spot before losing 1-0 at Bournemouth on Saturday to lose ground on the Champions League spots.

However, former Arsenal left-back Gibbs doesn't believe it is a huge surprise seeing the Reds struggle this term after coming within two matches of winning the quadruple last season.

Tottenham currently sit six point ahead of Liverpool in the final Champions League spot, but the Reds have a game in hand and still have to play Spurs at Anfield.

“I always find it funny when people ask for Klopp’s head. It baffles me a little bit,” Gibbs told The 2 Robbies podcast. "But that’s kind of the world we live in now so it’s come to be expected.

"But they’ve competed heavily for every competition for the last five years. Three Champions League finals I think it is, a Prem, title challenge every year for that, there’s been a World Cup in the mix, a lot of players went to that.

"Klopp’s style of play is so intense that it’s not surprising that they’re having a down year.”
