Former Argentina rugby union player 'shot dead outside bar in Paris'

Former Argentina rugby union player, Federico Aramburu, 42, was shot dead in Paris overnight after an altercation at a bar.

The incident occurred in the Mabillion district of the French capital when the 42-year-old and a friend were involved in an altercation with two other men, as reported by L'Equipe. The French news outlet report that the two other men left the scene before returning later in a car armed with a gun.

It has been reported that several shots were fired which resulted in the fatal wounding of the Argentine. The two alleged perpetrators are currently on the run from police.

Aramburu made 22 appearances for Los Pumas, representing Argentina at the 2007 Rugby World Cup in France. One of Aramburu's former clubs took to social media to post a message of condolence on Saturday.

"Immense sadness at the announcement of the death of our former player Frederico Martin-Aramburu in tragic circumstances," USA Perpignan wrote. "USAP sends its most sincere condolences to his family and loved ones."

Glasgow Warriors, who Aramburu turned out for between 2010 and 2011, wrote on Twitter: "We are shocked and saddened to hear of the sudden and tragic death of Warrior #185, Federico Aramburu.

"The embodiment of a true Warrior and much-loved by all, the thoughts of everyone past and present at the club, are with his family at this immensely difficult time."
