The full online statement read: "Knowsley officers received information that an ex-ambulance vehicle had been purchased by a member of the public. Officers observed the vehicle forcing its way through traffic and red light junctions. The driver has been reported and the vehicle seized."
Commenters questioned how a member of the public had obtained a vehicle which still had full ambulance markings. One person wrote: "One has to question the authority that sold it without removing emergency equipment and badges," while a second person added: "Surely livery and emergency lights should’ve been removed prior to sale. Problem solved".
