Former Alexander McQueen Designer Sarah Burton Is Taking on the Creative Director Role at Givenchy

There are certain designer departures that stop us dead in our tracks. Like when Virginie Viard announced she was departing Chanel after working for the French fashion house for almost three decades. Another shocker was when Sarah Burton decided to exit Alexander McQueen where she's been since the beginning of her career. It made everyone wonder what Burton would do next after such a drastic move. Turns out the British designer is heading to another famous house, Givenchy.

The French fashion house has been struggling to find its footing after Riccardo Tisci's tenure. The most recent designer before Burton was Matthew M. Williams, who left to focus on his own brand. Burton is clearly up for the assignment and seems more than thrilled with her new house.

"It is a great honour to be joining the beautiful house of Givenchy, it is a jewel. I am so excited to be able to write the next chapter in the story of this iconic house and to bring to Givenchy my own vision, sensibility and beliefs," she says in a statement.

Burton will head up both the women's and men's collections. Her first collection will be unveiled in March 2025.
