Former 2FM star Eoghan McDermott splits with long-time girlfriend Aoife Melia

Eoghan McDermott has split from his girlfriend Aoife Melia, RSVP has reported.

The former 2fm presenter and his doctor partner dated for a number of years when they were younger before breaking up. They then rekindled their romance in 2016 before going public.

However, they have now parted ways for good.

"But it is not all doom and gloom for Mr McDermott who has retained custody of the former couple's pet pooch, Rua, a rescue cockapoo," reports the Mail on Sunday.

Eoghan and Aoife went public with their relationship in 2016. They confirmed then romance seven years after they previously split up.

This news came after his break up from model Jo Archbold.

Announcing that he and Aoife were dating, he said at the time: "Met this firecracker 10 years ago!

"We've gone off & lived different lives in different countries, grown into different people, reconnected recently and are now going for round two - 7 years later. Life is so brilliantly random sometimes."

The former couple decided to live apart during lockdown because of her work on the frontline as a doctor.

Eoghan told RSVP Live at the time: "Aoife and her little sister Dearbhla, who was COVID-19 triage in St. Vincent’s Hospital, were living together in lockdown because they were seeing patients. She has handled it all really well.

"Every single day Dearbhla was going into the thick of it and bringing home stories of great triumph and other stories of grief.

"We have both acknowledged how lucky we are, we both have jobs we really like and both of our families are safe and well."

Eoghan left his role as the co-host of 2fm Breakfast alongside Doireann Garrihy in March 2020.

He was later replaced by former Ireland and Munster rugby star Donncha O'Callaghan and Carl Mullan.
