Many people across the UK celebrated Father’s Day over the weekend and for us, it’s a bit of a tradition to have a meal out or to sit down as a family. We decided that this year, we’d dine in, seeing as Father’s Day fell the week before payday and money’s pretty tight for everyone at the moment.
Instead of spending £30 per person on a sirloin and chips at the steakhouse, we whipped up a meal that weighed around half a kilo and cost roughly £5 a head - the difference of which meant I could pick my dad up a new Liam Gallagher vinyl.
Morrisons launched its giant Tomapork steaks ahead of Father’s Day, but you can still order them online now to enjoy on the barbecue, or for your Sunday dinner.

Weighing in at just under a kilo, Morrisons Tomapork is a whopping British rib end pork loin steak that comes in two pieces, each weighing roughly 450g each.
Edged with pork belly, it’s been left on the bone for succulence and served with a black pepper basting butter for an indulgent finish that you’d spend three times as much on at the pub.
Each steak is twice the size of a regular 8oz beef steak, with an average British fillet steak costing around £32 per kg. By comparison Morrisons Tomapork cost just £8 per kg offering shoppers a mammoth saving of 75 per cent.
For Father’s Day we served each 16oz cut with mashed potatoes, tenderstem broccoli, carrots and gravy made from the fats and butter left in the pan from cooking the steaks.
It really was a cut of gourmet meat fit for a King, making it the perfect Father’s Day meal. There was some fat on the meat, but just enough to keep everything juicy and flavourful, and you didn’t find yourself battling with it too much.
The flavour from the butter was beautiful and seeped through the meat despite it being nearly an inch thick. Having enjoyed a Tomapork as an actual steak, I’d love to experiment and see how versatile this cut is, but I do think barbecuing could be the best way to go this summer.
Morrisons Gourmet Collection Tomapork Steak is available online and in selected stores now for £8/kg.
