Forest Green Rovers have clinched promotion to League One in only their fifth season as an EFL club.
Rob Edwards' side only required a point away at play-off chasing Bristol Rovers. And they got just that in a goalless stalemate at the Memorial Stadium on Saturday. It completes a fine season for Rovers, who can now look forward to a first-ever tilt in League One next term.
The Gloucestershire team have been at the top of League Two since way back in September and are now eight points clear of fourth-placed Port Vale, who cannot catch them in their remaining two games.
Forest Green enjoyed the better chances against Joey Barton's side only to come up against an in-form goalkeeper in James Belshaw.
Bristol Rovers remain in fifth place, two points away from the automatic promotion places. Elsewhere in League Two, Exeter City beat Rochdale 2-0 to move ever closer to joining Forest Green in the third tier next season. The Grecians are now on 80 points and victory over Barrow on Tuesday in their game in hand will guarantee them promotion.
Northampton took advantage of Port Vale's surprise 2-0 loss away at Walsall, to move ahead into third place. The Cobblers sealed a 4-2 win away at Leyton Orient to move onto 76 points; one clear of Vale in fourth.
Mansfield and Sutton are sixth and seventh respectively but both have games in hand that could prove crucial in the tightly-congested chase for a play-off spot.
In League One it was another day full of twists and turns, although no promotion or relegation issues were confirmed.
Wigan Athletic came from behind to seal a vital 1-1 draw at home to play-off chasing Plymouth Argyle. Jack Whatmough's goal cancelled out Luke Jephcott's opener to move the Latics to within a point of promotion to the Championship. They could confirm elevation on Tuesday in their game in hand against Portsmouth.
The sides directly below them, Rotherham and MK Dons, both won to maintain the pressure. The Millers came from behind to beat Oxford 2-1 whilst a goal in each half was enough to ensure the Dons moved level on 86 points with Paul Warne's side. Rotherham, though, have a superior goal difference and a game in hand to be played on Tuesday.
At the other end Doncaster Rovers and AFC Wimbledon both kept their slim hopes of avoiding the drop alive for a few more days at least. Doncaster beat Burton whilst Wimbledon were held by fellow strugglers Fleetwood. Gillingham's defeat to Portsmouth moves them into the bottom four, on goal difference below Fleetwood.
The Cod Army have a game in hand, against Sheffield Wednesday next week. If they take a point from that they will relegate both Doncaster and Wimbledon.
