Police descended on a patch of grassland following the discovery of a suspected firearm.
Just before 8pm tonight, June 20, police discovered the weapon in a field between Netherton Way and George Masters Way, Bootle. Eyewitnesses had reported a large police and forensic presence at the scene - opposite the old Girobank building - with forensic officers searching through bushes.
They were seen removing bags of evidence from the area.
