Forensics officers comb flat after man left with serious injuries in stabbing

Forensics officers have been combing a flat after a man was left with serious injuries in a stabbing in Bolton.

People living in Toronto Street, in Breightmet, reported seeing a man 'covered in blood' being carried from the property on a stretcher following the incident this afternoon (Monday, November 2).

Police and paramedics were called to the street shortly before 1.30pm today.

A 36-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening, say GMP.

A cordon remained in place outside the property throughout this afternoon as forensics officers searched a flat on the ground floor.

People living on the residential street, off Bury Road, described seeing a ‘group of young lads screaming’ outside the flat earlier in the afternoon.

Julie Glover, who lives in Toronto Street, said she heard some ‘thumping’ noises that ‘sounded like someone trying to kick a door in’.

She added: “The police turned up and I saw some kids run away.

"They were dressed in black with their hoods up."

Another resident said they saw an air ambulance land on a stretch of grass next to Toronto Street before paramedics carried a man from the property on a stetcher.

The resident, who asked not to be named, said it was not the first time police had been called to the street.

"There is always trouble on here," he explained.

"People are always being nuisances. They need to do something about it because it is not fair."

Another neighbour alleged that they had seen ‘three young lads slashing a man with a machete’.

“It’s scary,” they added. “This sort of thing is always happening round here, though."

No arrests have been made in connection with the stabbing and GMP say they are treating it as an 'isolated incident'.

As darkness descended this afternoon, officers continued to guard both the front and back entrances to the property.

Meanwhile, several police vehicles could be seen parked along Toronto Street.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "Police were called shortly before 1.30pm today (Monday 2 November 2020) to reports of a stabbing on Toronto Street in Bolton.

"A 36-year-old man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

"No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.
