Early-morning workers were "shocked" to be met with a police cordon outside a pub as they arrived at their jobs this morning.
The usually quiet Liverpool Road in Ainsdale has been cordoned off since Friday evening, February 24, after Merseyside Police received a report that a man was assaulted.
The assault took place outside Champs at 10.30pm and the victim, a man in his 30s, has been taken to hospital where he is in serious but stable condition.

Steve, who works at Brough Butchers on Liverpool Road said: "Well, I was just coming to work this morning at around 5am. It was pitch black and as I got closer I saw the cordon in place so I had to walk around to get into the shop. I was pretty shocked by it, I mean it was news to me, I did not know it was there."
An investigation is underway and a forensic team was at the scene at around 11.30 this morning. A cordon is currently in place on Liverpool Road and Station Road while witness and CCTV enquiries are ongoing in the area
In a post on a local Ainsdale Facebook page, one woman said: "My son was on the bus going passed about 10.30 last night and saw a fight outside."
At the Co-Op on Station Road, one employee said that he had come in to work early on Saturday morning and had "no idea" what was going on. Champs have said that they are not connected to the incident and the pub is currently open.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "An investigation is underway and witness and CCTV enquiries are ongoing in the local area. A cordon is currently in place on Liverpool Road and Station Road whilst officers continue their enquiries.
