The UK's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has updated its advice for people travelling to Turkey ahead of an earthquake drill that is set to take place in the country.
The FCDO issued a warning on its website on Thursday that a nationwide earthquake drill will run this weekend. On Saturday, November 12 , sirens will sound across the country at 6.57pm local time.
Announcements will be made by Turkish TV and radio stations, and holidaymakers are urged to follow instructions from local authorities. Turkey is a popular destination for Brits, with more than 2.5 million people travelling to the country in the year before the pandemic in 2019.

Many areas of Turkey are subject to earthquakes and tremors, and those holidaying there are strongly advised by the FCDO to familiarise themselves with safety procedures in the event of an earthquake. According to EarthquakeTrack, Turkey has experienced two earthquakes within the last week, and 10 in the last month.
Several other safety warnings are in place for Brits travelling to Turkey from the FCDO, who advise against all travel to areas with 10km of the border with Syria, as well as all but essential travel to Sirnak and the province of Haiti. The Government department warns that terrorists are "very likely to carry out attacks" in the country, urging travellers to follow the advice of local authorities and monitor media reports to keep up to date with the latest advice.
All Covid restrictions were lifted in Turkey as of June 1 this year, with travellers no longer required to present proof of vaccination or negative PCR results upon arrival. However, the FCDO warns that Covid entry rules are often subject to change at short notice, and advise checking specifics with your airline before you travel.
