Ford Sierra Cosworth clocked by speed camera doing 104mph on 30mph street

A speed camera flashed a Sierra Cosworth doing more than 100mph on a 30mph street. The driver of the vintage sports car can expect a lengthy ban and a sizeable fine after they were clocked at a staggering 104mph on Albert Royds Street in Rochdale on Sunday afternoon.

GMP Traffic tweeted a picture of the white Cosworth alongside the message 'Words fail!'.

Being caught doing that kind of speed is classed as a 'Band C' offence - the most serious category. In extreme cases drivers can face bans of up to 120 days and they'll need to reapply for their licence once the ban is up.

Police also have the power to seize the car. But the owner will be desperately hoping that doesn't happen, as last month a rare Sierra Cosworth sold for nearly £600,000 at auction.

Responding to the GMP tweet, Coun Daniel Meredith replied: "Hopefully gets the book thrown at them! Words fail! This is a residential area with children playing. Not Silverstone!" Shadygiz posted: "Someone won't be driving their £100k car for much longer."

And Nigel Gregory tweeted: "Been happening for years, every Sunday is race day. As it is on the A627M from Sandbrook Park to Elk mill and back, no speed cameras, no traffic police."
