Forbidden Planet closing doors on Glasgow Buchanan Street as fans mark ‘end of an era’

For comic book fans of a certain generation, Forbidden Planet’s Buchanan Street store will hold lots of memories of those first trips into the city centre, and parting with hard-earned pocket money.

The city centre branch, a decades-old, one-stop shop for all things comic and cult film and television, is closing down this week.

Confirming its last day as Wednesday (May 11), Forbidden Planet posted on Facebook: “It’s the final few days before we close the door on our Buchanan St outlet store FOREVER. Get down today and pick up a bargain because EVERYTHING IS 60% OFF.”

The update prompted fans to share their memories, many reminiscing about their teenage years - and some scrambling for a bargain before the doors shut.

Kirsten Mackay commented: “You were our meeting up place when we were all teenagers, and we never went past without going in. Will miss you.”

Connor James Tierney called it the “end of an era” - and Glasgow Live team members of a certain age can’t help but agree.

Still, it’s not all bad news - because the bigger and newer Sauchiehall Street branch is still open for all your fanboy and fangirl needs.

We can’t wait to see who moves into the prime spot on Buchanan Street next.
