'For you, Milly-Rose' - Phil Foden's tribute to six-year-old Man City fan who died suddenly

Manchester City attacker Phil Foden dedicated his goal in the Premier League victory over Newcastle United to Milly-Rose, who died suddenly aged six.

Milly-Rose Stirrup was rushed to hospital last month after complaining of belly ache. Just twelve hours later, the six-year-old was tragically pronounced dead. The cause of her death has not been formally given, but doctors believe she was suffering from sepsis.

In the sixth minute of City's victory over Newcastle on Saturday afternoon, a huge round of applause could be heard as supporters rose to their feet to remember Milly-Rose. Shortly after, Foden gave the home side a 1-0 lead in the match and celebrated by kissing his hands and raising them to the sky.

Her parents were regulars at the Etihad Stadium, and her father said that she was a big fan of Foden. Following the game - which Pep Guardiola's side won 2-0 - the England international took to Twitter to dedicate his first-half strike to Milly-Rose.

"That one was for you Milly-Rose," he wrote, alongside a blue love heart emoji.

Milly-Rose's parents recently told the Manchester Evening News what it would mean for her to be remembered at the Etihad.

"It would be massive to see her on the screen and for everyone to clap for her," dad Shaun said. "We are huge City fans and she was in love with Phil Foden."
