For the record

An article (“Google took down content for Russia and China”, 16 February, p1) said Afghan police contacted Google 19 times in 2023, “an increase of 180% from the previous year”. In fact, there was just one recorded contact for 2022, so an increase of 1,800% had been meant.

Adam Smith-Connor, who in November 2022 refused a police instruction to move on from outside a Bournemouth abortion clinic where he was praying, was prosecuted for breaching a public space protection order, not “under the Public Order Act 2023”, which had yet to enter force at the time of the incident. His case came to court last year (“US Christian groups waging war on UK’s abortion buffer zones”, 16 February, p5).

It was Charis McGowan, not “Chris” McGowan, who wrote the piece headlined, “Whale’s mouth ‘like being in whirlpool’ ” (16 February, p32, later editions).
