For Congress’s Sowmya Reddy, it’s a battle for prestige in Bangalore South

In the constituency of Bangalore South, Sowmya Reddy of the Congress is hoping to win a battle of prestige.

Reddy had lost the Jayanagar assembly election in 2023 by just 16 votes – a seat the Congress had won five times since 1989. This year, pitted against BJP’s Tejasvi Surya, the former MLA is hoping to script success.

“The most important thing as a Member of Parliament is you need to speak up for the citizens of Karnataka,” she says in this interview with Shivani Kava. She also talks about an ideal elected representative – someone who’s accessible, connected to people, comes up with solutions, and “speaks up”.
