Barriers have been put up on a riverside footpath after part of a wall collapsed into the River Irwell.
Bricks and cement fell from the side of a wall near to Blackfriars Bridge, in Salford, into the river earlier today (February 9).
The wall is outside The Edge apartments and near to the East Z East restaurant, directly opposite Manchester city centre.
Eyewitnesses spotted the bricks in the river earlier this afternoon, but the wall has been stable since the collapse first took place.
Salford City Council and the Environment Agency have both been alerted about the issue.
The wall is understood to be the property of The Edge apartment block's owners.
Town hall chiefs told the Manchester Evening News that the path, which runs by the side of the Irwell between Blackfriars Bridge and the Lowry Hotel, is an unadopted path - meaning it is not under the local authority's control.
A spokesperson for Salford City Council said: "We’ve put pedestrian barriers up to close off the walkway and keep the public safe."
A spokesperson for the Environment Agency added: “We would like to reassure members of the community in Salford that we are aware of the wall that has collapsed into the River Irwell and that our specialist teams are working to ensure this does not increase flood risk or harm local wildlife.

Scanlans Property Management, which runs The Edge apartments, has been approached for comment.
