Football team wear toad-in-the-hole kit - and goalkeeper's strip is even stranger

They've had hot dogs, a cheese grater, a giant carrot and even a see-through kit.

But now Bedale AFC have really upped the ante with their toad-in-the-hole inspired strip, which features a hilarious warning to their opponents on the back.

The non-league side will be wearing another eccentric outfit this season - once again trying to help raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK.

Outfield players will be donning shirts and shorts which feature the classic British dish along with a fetching pair of green socks, labelling it 'Toad in the Goal'

On the back there is a message to the opposition which reads: "You're about to get battered".

Their sausage and batter strips are complimented by the goalkeeper's kit, which is covered in a side order of mixed vegetables.

On the reverse of that shirt, it says: "You haven't got the vegetables."

The numbers on the back of the shirt will be made up of green peas, so it will be easy for the refs to work out who is who.

They have already raised thousands of pounds for Prostate Cancer UK, with Bedale chairman Martyn Coombes said they have been inundated with requests to buy them.

"We've gone a bit more traditional this year – last year's was very hard hitting and got the prostate cancer message across, but it did cause some problems playing when the temperature rose," he explained.

"By taking the classic Toad in the Hole and given it a whole new meaning…and name! Welcome Bedale AFC’s latest sausage-themed football strip: Toad in the Goal."

They plan to donate £5 from every shirt sale - with the kit's being dreamed up by the club's sponsor, North Yorkshire-based sausage maker Heck.

Heck co-founder Andrew Keeble said: "What started as an innocuous sausage kit has snowballed into this massive, almost unstoppable force that shows no sign of letting up.

"Every time we think that's it, we get another idea for a new kit and away we go again. However, there is a very serious side to all of this because Heck and Bedale AFC continue to raise awareness and funds for prostate and testicular cancer."

The football club are famed for their novelty kits - and last year they created the world's first "see-through" strip in a bid to get us talking about balls.

The shirt was entirely see-through, with large white arrows pointed towards each player's manhood, alongside text that says "Don't forget to check."

Their original sausage-themed kit, which was covered in bangers, launched in 2017 and was voted one of the 'wurst' ever.

Then came the iconic hot dog kit in 2018, displaying a sausage in a bun covered in ketchup and mustard.

The following year was a cheeky bangers and mash number, but it was controversially banned by the FA.

That didn't stop fans around the world ordering their own version of the 'collector's item' shirt, raising even more money for the charity.

Coombs added: "Apparently the sausages on the shirt infringed FA rules so we hope they won't complain this year about our Toad in the Goal kit emblazoned with the Yorkshire pudding recipe down the sleeve."
