A losing coach chastised a California high school football team for lacking sportsmanship after running up the score to 106-0.

On Friday night, Inglewood High School, with seven players being pursued by college teams, scored 59 points in the first quarter against Monarch High School before adding another 57 points in the second quarter.

On Saturday, Morningside coach Brian Collins said that the score was “a classless move.”

”Go play St. John Bosco and Mater Dei,” Collins said, alluding to two primary California high schools that would be tough to beat.

Inglewood quarterback Justyn Martin threw 13 touchdowns, including a two-point conversion pass with a 104-0 advantage, to add salt to the wound of its city rival.

The team scored so many points that the scoreboard at El Camino College, where the game was played, couldn’t reflect the total.

Instead, the final score was 6-0 on the board.

With a tweet of the final score and a shout-out to Martin for tossing 13 touchdown passes, “the most a high school football game has seen in 100 years,” ESPN lauded Martin’s accomplishment against the opponent.

Famous ESPN analyst Dick Vitale, on the other hand, swiftly lambasted the institution and the head coach Mil’Von James.

“This violates everything you want from a leader of a [high school] team. How can anyone in their right mind defend the Coach of Inglewood? He is up 104-0 & goes for 2 pt conversion to win 106-0,” Vitale remarked in a tweet.

James, a former UNLV standout who was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Cleveland Browns in 2008 but never played in an NFL game, has been silent on the matter.

Others on Twitter, on the other hand, did not hold back.

The Inglewood Unified School District, which controls both schools, also commented on the rout, saying it was “saddened beyond words” by the game’s turnout and vowing for a thorough investigation.

Some argue that the referee should have intervened earlier in the game and applied the ‘mercy rule,’ which would have brought the match to a close sooner.

Inglewood was condemned by the California Interscholastic Federation-Southern Section for its lack of sportsmanship.

“The CIF-SS condemns, in the strongest terms, results such as these. It is our expectation that the Inglewood administration will work towards putting in place an action plan so that an event such as this does not repeat itself,” the CIF Southern Section said.

According to USA Today, Morningside’s season has concluded, with a record of 2-8, whereas Inglewood, with an 8-0 record will compete in the Southern Section Division 2 playoffs.
