Football match abandoned after teenage player suffers awful injury

A football match was abandoned on Friday night after a player dislocated her knee.

Swansea City Ladies U19s had been hosting Barry Town United at Llandarcy Academy when Swans midfielder Gwen Jones suffered a dislocated knee.

WalesOnline understands there was no foul play, while Jones could not be moved for some time, leading the fixture to be abandoned. She was taken to hospital on Friday night but is said to have since returned home.

Swansea City Ladies said on social media: "GAME ABANDONED. The game has been abandoned due to an injury."

They later added: "From all at Swansea City Ladies we would like to wish Gwen a speedy recovery following [the] injury. We would also like to thank Barry Town for all their help and assistance."

Barry Town Utd Women said: "We wish the Swans player all the best and hope she has a speedy recovery."
