Amidst a NFL late game schedule littered with blowouts, only the San Francisco 49ers and Las Vegas Raiders were keeping things interesting with a close match. Unfortunately, unless you lived locally to either city, many NFL fans missed overtime between the two teams completely.
On Sunday, the 49ers and Raiders went into overtime after Robbie Gould missed a 41-yard field goal at the end of the fourth quarter. Due to the way RedZone works, the broadcast can’t carry just one game when all the others end — alongside the late game overtime rules — so NFL fans were prompted to head over to their local Fox affiliate to watch the rest of the game.
The problem? Only a few markets were showing the Raiders and 49ers overtime, due to CBS having the double header and the game not being broadcast nationally. As Tashaun Gipson made a key interception to set the 49ers up for a game-winning field goal, many NFL fans looking to watch an exciting overtime period were left out in the cold.
Tashaun Gipson intercepts it and sets up great field position. #FTTB

This is the second time in the last six weeks that NFL RedZone has come under fire for cutting off its broadcast ahead of a big moment. And the second time the Raiders have been impacted by it as well this season! TV blackout restrictions are tough, there’s no doubt, but there has to be a better way to resolve this that doesn’t leave the majority of football fans hanging.
NFL fans were irate about the sudden end of NFL RedZone ahead of a major overtime between the 49ers and Raiders.
NFL has to figure out the late-game-OT-not-being-on-red-zone-or-any-other-channel problem

Red Zone not showing OT of Raiders-Niners <<<<<<

Eh. Who would want to see a 56-yard interception return in overtime?
Everyone who paid to see it, that’s who. https://t.co/lahav16qXl

The second time this year Red Zone has to switch away from the Raiders in OT while the local affiliate isn't showing it.

NFL Redzone: Some FOX affiliates will have overtime between the Niners and Raiders.
My FOX affiliate: Showing Zombie Simpsons.
Does anyone even care about a rerun of a newer Simpsons episode? At least make it one from the 90's.

So Red Zone isn't permitted to show the end of the Raiders game, but there's also a good chance that FOX isn't bothering to show it to you either.
Broadcast rules remain idiotic.

it's truly insane that redzone can't show OT when it's not a national broadcast lol

Redzone: switch over to your local fox channel to see the Raiders 49ers OT game
Fox: The Simpsons

How the hell can you sign off Red Zone domestically?? This is the NFL
— Scott Zolak (@scottzolak) January 2, 2023
Too bad we can't see the end of the Raiders-49ers game with Red Zone having to sign off domestically.
— JosinaAnderson (@JosinaAnderson) January 2, 2023
RedZone is dumping us again for a game that I can't see. WTF is the purpose of RedZone if we can't see all the games, @ScottHanson ?
— Michael Murphy (@merfster1) January 2, 2023
It's really confusing how I choose to pay for NFL Redzone and then I don't get to see the ending of the best game of the week. Isn't that WHY I pay for Redzone? I hate this.
