Footage of Tyson Fury KO contradicts Dillian Whyte's claim he banged head on canvas

Fresh footage of Tyson Fury's KO of Dillian Whyte suggests the challenger did not bang his head on the canvas, despite him claiming otherwise.

The 'Body Snatcher' suffered defeat in his heavyweight title challenge after being stopped by a brutal uppercut in the sixth round. Whyte broke his silence after the fight to claim the knockout was illegal after alleging he banged his head on the canvas after being pushed by the champion.

However new footage appears to show minimal contact was made between Whyte's head and the canvas after crumbling to the canvas. Whyte was first hit with the uppercut which closed the show before he felt he was pushed to the mat which aided his fall.

Whyte then claimed his head had crashed on to the floor as a result of being pushed, and as a result should have been awarded more time to recover by referee Mark Lyson. However the footage appears to show Whyte's shoulder first hitting the canvas which suggests limited contact was made between his head and the bottom of the ring,

The 34-year-old is then pictured laying on his back with his head gently grazing the surface, before rising to his feet and stumbling towards the official which led to the fight being halted. Fury was shown in the footage waving his hands in the air and asking for the fight to be ended as he claimed he grew fearful of inflicting further damage on his opponent.

After being stopped in brutal fashion, Whyte insisted that he should be offered a rematch on the back of the "illegal" action during the stoppage. "The uppercut landed; I was buzzed but as I was trying to gather my senses he full on shoved me and I fell over and hit my head on the canvas which is illegal," he told Sky Sports.

"This isn't wrestling, this is boxing, but as usual, they let Fury do what he wants and get away with it. I should have been allowed extra time to recover and then carry on fighting. He pushed me and said to the referee, 'Don't to let the fight carry on'.

"The referee is not doing his job; how can someone... OK, I got caught with a good shot and I was hurt but I didn't go straight down. I was trying to get my senses and he fully two-handed pushed me and I fell over and hit my head.

"It was a terrible job from the referee. I should have had time to recover and have time to go back to my corner. Tyson Fury gets away with a lot of things; he said he wants to retire but i hope he doesn't retire because i want another go."
