Footage of teenager's Strathaven park attack was shown in court

A teenager had a tooth broken when he and a pal were attacked by another youth in a Strathaven park.

Callum Mulhearn's violent behaviour was filmed by nearby residents and the footage shown at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week.

Mulhearn, 18, of Raploch Street, Larkhall, admitted assaulting the two males in John Hastie Park on April 23 2021.

The court heard the victims were cycling with friends in the park about 7.30pm when they saw a group of youths, including Mulhearn, running towards them.

The pair fled but Mulhearn caught up with one of them and punched him repeatedly on the face, chest and stomach.

Rebecca Clark, prosecuting, said: "His friend got off his bike and ran to assist, but the accused approached and punched him on the face.

"The first victim began to run away and Mulhearn threw a glass bottle that struck him on the neck but, fortunately, caused no injury.

"Mulhearn then threw a second glass bottle that hit him on the leg, smashing on impact and causing a cut.

"The victim also had a front tooth broken during the assault, but it has since been repaired fully."

The court heard that all parties involved were around the same age and were known to each other.

Mulhearn was 16 at the time.

Sheriff Linda Nicolson deferred sentence until next month for background reports and an electronic tagging assessment.
