Matildas star Caitlin Foord has scored a brace to headline Arsenal's 5-1 thrashing of Leicester City, moving the Gunners to within three points of Women's Super League leaders Chelsea.

With Alessia Russo, Chloe Kelly and Daphne van Domselaar all missing from the squad due to injury, Arsenal boss Renee Slegers made five changes to the side that beat Crystal Palace 4-0.

After just 10 minutes on Tuesday, Frida Maanum fired a cross to the back post with Foord there to bag her 10th goal this season.

Foord also played a role in Arsenal's second goal, with a nicely weighted pass across the square for Stina Blackstenius to tap in.

The Australian winger continued her strong performance before half-time, finding the net once more.

She was played in by Mariona Caldentey and hit a quick one-two with Blackstenius, before striking the ball from the top of the box.

Her shot took a deflection off as a Leicester defender slid in to stop, but Janina Leitzig was unable to stop the ball hitting the back of the net.

The Gunners stretched the lead to four early in the second half before Yuka Momiki got one back for the visitors.

Arsenal's fifth goal came from substitute Victoria Pelova, the Dutch midfielder scoring for the first time since returning from an ACL injury earlier this year.

While Arsenal's attention now turns to the Champions League, Slegers wants her side to take the WSL title race all the way.

"For us it was important for us to be focused on this game," she said post-match.

"We know there were four games left of the WSL now there's three. We wanted to win four out of four so this result is important.

"We did a lot of things really well today."

In the Champions League, Arsenal host the first leg of the semifinal against Lyon at the Emirates on Saturday, where they've won their last eight matches in all competitions by an aggregate score of 31-2.
