Foodstory open first sustainable cafe in Edinburgh with no takeaway cups and grocery

A hugely popular sustainable café, which first opened in Aberdeen in 2012, is set to open a new site in the capital.

The team behind Foodstory announced on their socials, that they would be expanding to Edinburgh with the opening of the exciting new venue on Easter Road on Thursday, December 1

The cafe is designed to be a space for people to gather and socialise as well as eat locally sourced, sustainable food and drink great coffee.

They posted: "It’s taken us a while but we finally DID IT. We’re excited to show you around! Like in Aberdeen we want to create a space to bring people together. We’d also like our customers in Aberdeen to have a familiar place, to come to when visiting Edinburgh."

They confirmed the new space would be open Thursday to Saturday, 10-3 for now but with plans for longer hours and more days after Christmas.

Speaking about what people can expect from them, the Foodstory team explained that there a few things customers should know before they launch.

They wrote: "We’ll have no single-use takeaway cups and containers on site so please bring your reusable cups, bowls, plates, Tupperware, bags, hats, scarfs, flower pots, whatever you can think of, get creative. We won’t judge.

"Using reusables at our other cafe starts conversations, builds trust and makes everyone laugh a lot of the time. We love it and we think you will too. It’s a bit of a risk but it makes us feel good and you’ll notice that it’ll make you feel good too. Watching people walk down the street with plates and mugs is thee BEST.

"If you forget we’ll have back up don’t worry (reusable cups and plates free of charge or a deposit system). If you’re sitting in we’ll have sit-in cups and bowls."

They added that once they settle in, they'll open their space for art and other projects in a similar fashion to their Aberdeen site.

They said: "Please spread the word and tell EVERYONE you know that we’re opening. It will help BIG time. Thank you, Thank you! Huge love to you all."

The new Foodstory café opens at 127 Easter Road on Thursday, December 1.
