Last week we asked followers of our MyFermanagh Facebook page to let us know where they thought had the best breakfast fry up in the county.
Well, the result was unanimous. You all rowed in behind Cafe JD just outside Enniskillen as their number one choice, with at least half of all comments opting for it.
Naturally, we had to go and check it out to confirm, for research purposes.
When I called in this week, the first thing you would say about it was that it is pretty unassuming.
Hidden away in a dark corner of the Killyhevlin Business Centre, it doesn’t look like much from the outside.
Even as I get in the door there’s not much to it, until I see the crowds of hi-vis jackets in their for Friday morning fry up.
With so many businesses nearby, it’s in a great spot to pick up business from local workers and they were out in force during my visit.
Hungry as I was, I went for the large breakfast, which came with two sausages, two bacon, two fried eggs, potato bread, soda bread, hash brown, mushrooms and tomato. And a few rounds of toast and a pot of tea for good measure.
They do have smaller versions available but I wanted the full fry experience, so don’t judge me.
It was a stacked plate but it as genuinely so good that I ate every bite. The eggs in particular were cooked perfectly, nice runny yolks as they should be.
The sausages and bacon were clearly good quality and strangely enough it didn’t feel too greasy either.
Price wise, the large fry was £7.95 and that included tea or coffee, with the small option starting at just under a fiver.
All in all, I think you would go a long way to find a fry as good as this in the county. Safe to say I have been converted!
Thanks again to the MyFermanagh readers for their expertise…
