Chances are if you're from the North East of England, you've visited Beamish Museum on a school trip or day out.
The Living Museum of the North is an open-air museum located at Beamish, near Stanley, in County Durham.
It tells the story of life in North East England during the 1820s, 1900s and 1940s and beyond and most of its houses, shops and other buildings have been rebuilt and furnished from a particular time period. A perfect family-fun day out, filled with history, heritage and activities - there's plenty to do and see at the museum.
You can visit the refurbished 1900s front street, or take a trip down the famous Mahogany Drift Mine - catch a ride on the dated trams, or visit the old Victorian school for a lesson or two in northern culture.

And with acres upon acres of land to explore, all of that walking will be sure to tire you out and looking for a spot to eat. Fortunately, the museum has you covered - with more than 20 places to get a bite to eat or drink while making the most of the stunning park.
But have you ever questioned exactly how clean Middleton's fresh Fish & Chips, the famous Jubilee Sweet Shop, or the Sinkers Bait Cabin are in terms of food hygiene? Here, ChronicleLive explains.
Each business is given a rating after an inspection by the Food Standards Agency with requirements, if necessary, on how to improve hygiene. In the ratings, five is top of the scale, where standards are very good and zero is at the bottom, where urgent improvement is necessary.
