The Flying Scotsman has passed through Nottinghamshire as part of its journey along the East Coast mainline from London to Edinburgh. Around 1pm the famous locomotive passed through several villages in the county as well as Newark on Trent.
The Flying Scotsman was built in 1923 for the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER), and is considered to be an icon of British engineering and railway history. Dozens of people headed out and patiently waited for a glimpse of the train earlier today (Friday, June 30).
Photos have been shared on social media showing the train passing through Claypole and Balderton before going on to Newark and then Retford. The train boasted several carriages on its journey and could be seen leaving behind a trail of steam as it went through the town centre.
