Although longer-haul routes tend to be a lot more expensive, with one-way tickets to the 'Big Apple' costing an average of £400 each.

The low-cost Scandinavian airline, Play, is offering a new deal on a Liverpool to New York route where return flights can be bought for £312. This is £309 cheaper than return flights with Aer Lingus, another popular 'affordable' route for North West travellers.
