"Fly high with the angels. Sleep well": Tributes to 'beautiful' boy, 11, who died after being hit by bus

Touching floral tributes have been left close to where an 11-year-old boy died after being struck by a bus, as he rode his bike.

Lucas Ashton was killed in the collision in Vernon Street, Bolton, at 1.40pm on Friday afternoon (December 30). Earlier today, his family released a heartbreaking image as police continue an investigation into his death.

The driver of the bus remained at the scene and continues to assist officers with their enquiries and no arrests have been made at this time.

Since the police cordon was removed, several bouquets of flowers have been left leaning against a wall on Vernon Street, close to the junction with Mossfield Court. On a card attached to one bunch on the wall itself, a person wrote: "You were such a lovely little boy Lucas. Hope you're up there showing the angels how to play basketball!

"Sleep well little man. GBNF (gone but not forgotten)."

Another read: "To Lucas Ashton, I'm missing you so much. You're in a better place now."

A message on one of the bouquets resting against the wall read: "Fly high with the angels. Sleep well beautiful. Always in our thoughts."

GMP’s specialist officers continue to support Lucas’s family and loved ones and officers are continuing to appeal to members of the public - particularly passengers who were on the bus in question - to make contact.

If you have any information about this incident - or footage - please call GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) on 0161 856 4741 or 0161 856 8802. You can also make a report via the GMP website or through the independent charity Crimestoppers - anonymously – on 0800 555 111.
