Lagartos Rugby Club are about to do just that against their main rivals. What happened next couldn't have been worse.
The video, which comes from Chile and was posted by Rugby Dump, has shocked rugby fans around the world.
In what can only be described as utter chaos, the Lagartos fly-half makes a hash of the simple kick to touch and instead boots the ball directly onto the head of one of his own team mates.
Instead of going out to end the game and secure promotion, the ball rebounds into play. The scrum-half of the opposing team, Old Reds, was on the ball (quite literally), pounced upon the deflected strike, and touched down to win the match for his team instead.
Madness.
To make matters worse, the result meant that Old Reds ended up being promoted to the next division, whilst Lagartos somehow missed out.
In just a few hours the clip has racked up over 200,000 views on Twitter and 75,000 views on TikTok, It looks set to become a viral hit on social media and viewers have been left gobsmacked.
"Imagine how you'd feel" said one.
"The stuff of nightmares!" said another.
Watch the video for yourself. It's one of rugby's funnier moments - not that the Lagartos players were laughing much afterwards.
