Floyd Mayweather recalls wanting to "kill" Jake Paul during "gotcha hat" brawl

Floyd Mayweather wanted to "kill" Jake Paul during their brawl at a press conference last year for his exhibition with Paul's brother Logan.

Paul and Mayweather clashed in Miami after the YouTube star stole the boxing legend's hat, prompting a viral clip and a range of ''gotcha hat' merchandise.

Security were forced to step in after Mayweather charged at the star as Paul was left with a black eye.

And last week, Mayweather spoke to female star Claressa Shields on FaceTime after her victory against Ema Kozin, when she said: "And you know about Michigan, because remember when you slapped Jake Paul?"

He replied: "I was gonna kill him."

Shields then highlighted her confrontation with rival Savannah Marshal : "I know and I had the same thing in me. Like, hold on this b**** disrespecting me, get these motherf****** belts off me, let me stand up real quick."

The female star had a ringside spat with Marshall as the pair edge closer to a historic battle in the ring.

Shields has also shared a rivalry with Paul with the pair exchanging verbal jabs over issues including Paul's lack of "real" boxing opponent.

Mayweather fought Jake's brother Logan in a hotly-anticipated exhibition last year which generated huge interest with over one million pay-per-view units sold.

The pair generated a huge wealth from the contest with Paul earning approximately $15m while Mayweather earned another $65m to add to his lucrative career earnings.

It also received a huge build-up with the incident against Paul's brother Jake who attended the event generating further interest in the YouTube star's boxing careers.

Paul has launched his own boxing career fighting the likes of Tyron Woodley and Ben Askren in the professional ranks, moving to a record of five victories.

He has ruled out taking part in exhibition bouts but previously claimed he was messaging Mayweather in a bid to goad him into the boxing ring in a professional bout.

“I don’t do exhibitions. I told Floyd, I actually messaged him and I said ‘Yo, if you want to do a real pro fight at a weight class, then let’s do it.’

“But I think he’s going to retire and that’s probably what’s best for him because my brother is a great fighter, but I’m just built different. I would have taken Floyd out and that wouldn’t be good for him."

Mayweather previously offered the younger Paul sibling a bout but only if the star made a remarkable drop in weight to 147lbs which is extremely unlikely.
