Floyd Mayweather "in best shape for 10 years" ahead of potential Amir Khan clash

Floyd Mayweather's trainer believes his fighter is training like he is in his prime as he awaits his next exhibition outing.

The boxing legend returned to the ring for his latest money-spinning bout against former sparring partner Don Moore in the Middle East. He outclassed his rival with an entertaining display, and revealed after the final bell that he will continue his boxing showcases.

And Mayweather's coach Gerald Tucker has stated that the retired star's training is reminding him of his preparations for victory over Miguel Cotto in 2012. “A clip from a few days before the fight. Floyd Mayweather is getting closer and closer to the Floyd of his younger days," he posted on Instagram. “The workouts now remind me of around the time he faced Cotto. Can’t wait to see the announcement for the next bout coming up soon.”

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the fight with Moore, Mayweather put on a show by commentating and even dancing with the ring girl during the event. The American star was so confident that he even requested for an increase in the length of rounds while exchanging blows with Moore.

The 45-year-old has now fought in three exhibitions having defeated Japanese kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa before sharing the ring with YouTube star Logan Paul last June. The boxing legend claimed he may have earned up to $100million for his latest meeting with Moore on top of his previous $65m payout from facing Paul.

Mayweather has yet to confirm an opponent for his next outing but recently retired Amir Khan watched the events unfold ringside. Khan has admitted he would be open to an exhibition with Mayweather after the boxing legend told him to delay his retirement.

"Look, exhibitions always happen," Khan explained to talkSPORT. "I met Floyd the other day in Dubai and there was some excitement there, he was like 'don't retire, let's do something, there's something we can do'. I was like 'maybe if it didn't happen when we were both professional fighters, maybe it can happen as an exhibition'. No-one wins, it's just a bit of fun to give the fans a bit of entertainment.

"I think now with boxing, it's totally changed now where a lot of these fights happen, social media guys fight each other, and a new door's been open. People can just step in after a week of training and have a fight!"

Khan later doubled down on his exhibition call-out asking Mayweather to get in touch with him or his brother over a potential meeting. "We saw the event today, I think Floyd needs a real challenge," he said after the event from ringside. "We should do it. 100 per cent guys, let's make it happen. I'm calling him out. Either hit me up or hit my brother [Tam Khan] up."
