Flowers left at weir after man's body recovered from River Trent

Flowers have been left in tribute after a man's body was recovered from the River Trent. Nottinghamshire Police divers spent almost two days searching the weir at Stoke Bardolph following reports a 39-year-old man had gone missing in the water.

Emergency services attended the scene just after 6.30pm on Sunday, August 14 and began a search. A body of a man was then recovered just after 8am on August 16.

Residents had express shock at the incident. Chief Inspector Chris Sullivan, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This is a tragic incident that has resulted in a man losing his life.

“We are currently investigating what happened and would like to speak to any additional witnesses who have yet to come forward. Our thoughts today are with the man’s family and friends at what we know will be an extremely difficult time.

“Any search and recovery operation of this nature is very challenging, and I would like to pay tribute to the members of all three emergency service who attended the scene.” Anyone with additional information is asked to call 101 quoting the incident.
