Flowers for fantastic Lanarkshire gran who'd 'give you the last penny in her pocket'

A wonderful Wishaw woman is the worthy recipient of our “Say it with Flowers” award this week.

Linda Nelson was described as one of the “most amazing, caring and loving” people you could ever meet by her daughter-in-law Katie Cooper.

Linda, 51, works with people who are receiving end of life care and it’s something she has also had to deal with on a personal level.

Katie explained: “Linda’s mum Margaret had cancer and died two years ago, but she looked after her all through her illness. She gave up her life and was absolutely devoted to her mum when she needed it most. She moved in with her mum and was there with her in her final moments.

"I’ve never met a woman like her, if she wasn’t working she was looking after her mum. And from her mum passed she’s been helping looking after her mum’s sister, her Auntie Irene who is in a home. She visits her every day.

"She would give you her last penny in her pocket.”

The family are expecting a new arrival in the very near future.

“I’m pregnant and only have five weeks to go, so she has a new grandchild on the way,” said Katie. “She has been fantastic with me and bought his pram and has been taking me to all of my appointments as I’ve not been well at all through my pregnancy.

"She’s already a gran to Anton, who’s 10, and my two Liam and Olly who are 11 and seven years old. It’s all boys. She’s been fantastic taking me here, there and everywhere all the time.

"She looks after us all the time. My partner Steven, her son, works away and when he’s working she is with us quite a lot. We really don’t know what we’d do without her. She devotes all of her time to her family.”

When Katie contacted the Wishaw Press about her amazing mother-in-law Linda, we were only too pleased to help by surprising her with a fantastic floral display, courtesy of our friends at Pixies Petals in Newmains.
