Flowers for caring Craigneuk woman who goes above and beyond for others

A champion of the community has been recognised for going “above and beyond” for others.

Christine McGeechan from Craigneuk was nominated as our Say it with Flowers winner this week by neighbour Laura McLernon.

Caring Christine, a 61-year-old mum and gran, is always doing her bit to help others and is a committee member of the Craigneuk Residents and Tenant’s Association.

Laura lives in the same street as Christine and has seen first hand on more than one occasion how she puts her community first.

“I’m from Hamilton originally and moved over to Northern Ireland, I was there for 10 years and then I came back.

“I’ve been in Craigneuk for a year and Christine helped me a lot when I came back with stuff for the house and the kids.

“She does so much for the community, she goes out her way to do raffles and stuff like that to get money for the Christmas tree and the lights and does a lot to help others.

"She gets people dressed up as Santa and they go around dishing out selection boxes and hot chocolate. She does everything for the weans. If anyone needs anything then she tells people to get in contact with her.

“She always wants to help and recently set up a fundraiser for young Faye Taylor, who has a brain tumour.

When Laura told us about Christine’s amazing work, the Wishaw Press was delighted to present her with a beautiful floral arrangement, courtesy of our friends at Pixies Petals in Newmains.

“Christine always goes above and beyond to help you,” she added. “She helps out families and young people and she’s helped me and my kids a lot, but she does it for everybody. She is always on the go but she was in hospital herself a couple of weeks ago with health problems but she never seems to stop. She just goes on helping people.

“I just wanted to let her know that I appreciate her help, and so do so many others.”
