Flowers and cuddly toys left at scene of five-year-old girl's tragic death

Mourners have left flowers and cuddly toys where a five-year-old girl was tragically killed after being struck by a car.

Floral tributes and heartfelt messages were placed at the scene of the tragedy in Blurton yesterday (April 2).

It comes the day after the young victim was hit by a Volkswagen Touran on Waterside Drive at around 6pm yesterday, April 1.

Emergency services, including an air ambulance, were scrambled following the horror incident.

The girl was found in cardiac arrest, and despite paramedics best efforts to save her, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 63-year-old man remains in police custody following the tagedy.

Staffordshire Police has confirmed that it is conducting enquiries into the incident.

The girl's next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

A statement from Staffordshire Police today confirmed there had been a collision involving a grey Volkswagen Touran and a pedestrian.

Waterside Drive was taped off by emergency services following the collision.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "A five-year-old girl has died following a collision in Stoke-on-Trent. Police were called at 5.52pm on Friday (1 April) to Waterside Drive, Blurton, following reports of a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian.

"Officers attended and the five-year-old girl was found in cardiac arrest following a collision involving a grey Volkswagen Touran.

Sadly, she was pronounced dead by paramedics a short time later.

"Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially-trained officers at this difficult time. A 63-year old man from the Stoke-on-Trent area has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He remains in police custody while inquiries continue."
