A Florida woman, Briana Boston, 42, has been arrested and charged with threats to conduct a mass shooting or an act of terrorism after allegedly threatening a Blue Cross Blue Shield agent over a denied insurance claim. The incident occurred during a phone call where Boston was recorded saying, 'Delay, deny, depose. You people are next.'
According to Polk County jail records, Boston was upset about recent denied medical claims and referenced the recent murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson as part of her threat towards the company. The Lakeland Police Department was informed about the incident.
Upon visiting Boston's home, officers reported that she admitted to making the threat and apologized for her actions. Boston clarified that she does not own firearms and claimed she is not a danger to others.
An arrest affidavit revealed that Boston expressed her belief that healthcare companies 'deserved karma from the world because they are evil' and accused them of playing games.
This incident comes shortly after the arrest of Luigi Mangione, a 26-year-old Ivy League graduate, for allegedly murdering Thompson in New York City. The murder scene reportedly had shell casings with the words 'delay,' 'deny,' and 'depose' written on them.
Following Thompson's murder, UnitedHealthcare took precautionary measures by removing the pictures and names of its executives from its website. Concerns about potential copycat actions have prompted other insurance companies, including some Blue Cross Blue Shield plans, and pharmacies to take similar steps.
Reactions to Thompson's murder have been mixed on social media, with some individuals praising Mangione as a 'hero' for targeting the insurance CEO, while others have strongly condemned the act of violence.
