There were 149,452 new coronavirus cases recorded over the last two weeks among Florida residents, bringing the cumulative total to 6,789,498. With 903 more fatalities on record, 77,565 Florida residents have died.
The death total over the last two weeks reflects an increase from the 771 reported in the two weeks before, but deaths can take several days or weeks to be reported. Many newly reported deaths are of people who died before the last two weeks.
The number of cases over the last two weeks increased compared to the 146,069 reported in the two weeks before. Positivity decreased from 21.1% to 20.7%. That’s for new cases only and excludes anyone who previously tested positive.
Of note, the state reports deal only with Florida resident cases and exclude nonresidents cases, which are no longer available.
Across the state, 5,203 people were hospitalized with COVID-19 from July 20-26, according to the latest White House report. In comparison, 5,015 were hospitalized two weeks ago. Four weeks ago, it was 4,477.
Statewide, 15,939,060 residents, or 72% of people age 6 months and up, have received at least one vaccination shot, including 7,825,344 who have completed their shot regimens but not received an additional dose through July 28. Meanwhile, 57,805 received an additional dose this week, bringing the total to 5,917,705.
Central Florida added 29,559 resident infections over the last two weeks, based on the actual date the state opened the case, for a total of 1,332,526: 8,439 more in Orange for 434,463; 2,850 more in Osceola for 130,691; 5,894 more in Polk for 231,830; 2,158 more in Lake for 97,701; 755 more in Sumter for 25,974; 3,265 more in Volusia for 135,156; 3,698 more in Brevard for 156,915; and 2,500 more in Seminole for 119,796.
