A Florida man was arrested after he was caught sleeping on a Walmart rooftop with a gun, seeking shelter from Hurricane Helene, according to a report.
The incident unfolded on Saturday, Sept. 28, when Lee County deputies in Fort Myers, Florida, found Daniel Ray Rios, 30, on the Walmart roof. The caller who reported Rios is an employee of the retailer who first spotted him while inspecting the air conditioning units.
Rios had climbed on top of the store the previous night in an attempt to escape the storm, taking cover near one of the AC units, according to Fort Myers NBC.
Police also found a box of ammunition and casings near his hiding place, according to the outlet.
Rios was taken into custody and charged with armed trespassing. The following day, Rios posted a $1,500 bond and was released from jail.
