A Florida man, Neal Brij Sidhwaney, 43, of Fernandina Beach, has been sentenced to 14 months in prison for threatening to kill Chief Justice John Roberts. Sidhwaney pleaded guilty to transmitting an interstate threat to kill and faced a maximum sentence of five years in federal prison. In addition to his prison term, Sidhwaney will serve three years of supervised release.
Sidhwaney made the threatening phone call to the Supreme Court on July 31 last year, leaving an expletive-laden voicemail message for a member of the high court. While the Justice Department did not specify the targeted justice, online court documents revealed that the threat was directed at Chief Justice John Roberts.
According to a competency assessment filed with a federal court in Florida, Sidhwaney allegedly contacted Chief Justice Roberts by phone and threatened to kill him.
In a separate incident, a California man, Nicholas Roske, has pleaded not guilty to charges of attempting to murder Justice Brett Kavanaugh. Roske was arrested near Kavanaugh's home outside of Washington, DC, with a bag containing a gun and burglary tools. His attorneys have indicated that they are in discussions with prosecutors regarding a potential pretrial resolution.
